A Raft Wars 2 Review

Raft Wars 2 is an action shooter browser game published by BigDino.com. It's the sequel to the original Raft Wars browser game that was released over five years ago. The original was successful due to its simple, charming graphics, built-in humor and well-balanced level of difficulty. How does the highly-anticipated sequel compare to the original? Let's find out.

In Raft Wars, you controlled baby Simon and his brother as the duo fought a battle on water rafts for piles of treasure they accidentally found. In Raft Wars 2, Simon and his brother return from a trip to find that a new water park was built on top of where they decided to bury their hard-earned treasure. Now it's up to you to help the cute duo scare off the water park security team in order to reclaim the treasure.

Like the first game, Raft Wars 2 takes place on water rafts. You help Simon launch tennis balls, bombs and other fun sources of ammo at enemies using your mouse. The controls are simple. Simply aim and click to choose a trajectory path and watch your tennis ball go flying. Your shots can ricochet off other items, which adds a bit of complexity and realism to aiming. As you defeat enemies and score points you advance through levels and the game gradually becomes more difficult.

As you advance you can obtain special ammo and new rafts that allow you to choose your launch sites more carefully. You're also able to recruit new friends of Simon along the way who cheer you along and act as additional cannon fodder. Since the security team fights back, it's handy to have friends nearby who will take a few nasty blows for you. The game uses a turn-based combat system to pull this off.

The game's plot is simple and there are a few cut scenes that serve as a slight break from the action. Like the first Raft Wars, the characters are quite charming and add some humor to the game. Raft Wars 2 actually adds more humor to the story, which added to the game's overall charm for me.

The difficulty in Raft Wars 2 seems very much on par to the original Raft Wars. The game starts out simple but ramps up nicely once you start earning points. It's extremely difficult to gain the maximum amount of points, which makes the game replayable if you're interested in beating your previous scores.

Overall, Raft Wars 2 is a simple game, but cute, fun and rather addictive. Pick it up if you're a fan of the original or games similar to it.
